MAPELEY ESTATES LTD APPOINTS NEW HEAD OF DEVELOPMENT27 February 2017

UK, 27 Feb 2017: Mapeley announces today the appointment of Matt Hawkins to the newly created role of Head of Development. Mr Hawkins, the former Chief Operating Officer (International Quarter) of Lend Lease, will use his vast mixed-use project experience to explore, prioritise and deliver a pipeline of significant developments across Mapeley’s well-located freehold commercial space. His appointment reflects Mapeley’s ambitious plans to focus on the redevelopment of properties and define a strategy across the national portfolio as tenants vacate space in our buildings. Mapeley is already reviewing a number of properties to identify opportunities to progress existing redevelopment schemes with notable projects including the conversion of a former First World War hospital into c.300 new homes in Worthing; regenerating former data centres in Telford to educational and retail uses; and redeveloping Albert Bridge House in central Manchester into a substantial mixed use scheme incorporating residential and commercial uses. Prior to joining Mapeley, Mr Hawkins was the Chief Operating Officer for a 5 million sq ft mixed use commercially-led scheme in Stratford, adjacent to the Olympic Park, where he led the development and delivery team. Mr Hawkins was also previously Development Director at CIT Real Estate. Amongst other projects, he was responsible for one of North London’s most valuable residential development sites directly overlooking Primrose Hill and the change of use for a mixed-use 40-storey regeneration scheme on London’s South Bank. Matt Hawkins, Head of Development, Mapeley Estates Ltd, said: “It’s really exciting to be joining Mapeley as it embarks on a major redevelopment of its vacant stock and as such represents one of the best redevelopment pipelines in the UK. I look forward to working with the team at Mapeley to realise these opportunities.” Mark Smith, Chief Executive Officer, Mapeley Estates Ltd, said: “I am delighted that Matt has joined our team in this newly created role at such an exciting time for Mapeley as we look to expand our development credentials around the country. Matt’s unique skill set and in-depth experience of development will dovetail seamlessly with Mapeley’s current offering.”
